Upper Mid-Band Spectrum for 6G: Vision, Opportunity and Challenges
Published in IEEE Communications Magazine, 2026
This paper articulates a vision for the upper mid-band (FR3) spectrum (7.125–24.25 GHz) as a foundation for 6G. It surveys the opportunities for added capacity, summarizes empirical channel-modeling work on path loss and delay spreads in this band, and identifies key challenges relevant to 3GPP standardization.
